Programs

Health & Immunization

Health Awareness: THAIS, Inc. is the only community health organization for the Los Angeles Thai community. Our primary responsibility is to improve the health outcomes for the low- income Thai community by developing programs and practices that address health, social, and environmental which impacts health. THAIS, Inc. is in collaboration with community partnerships in health services and care, education, advocacy, and community planning, with all partners working to improve the health of children, youth, and families of East Hollywood. We help promote flu vaccine and hand hygiene to the Thai community yearly.

Nutrition: Our Nutrition Program is designed to educate and engage families in healthy eating and physical activity- all of which promotes healthy living and self- esteem. THAIS, Inc.’s Nutrition Program ranges from free Thai vegetarian cooking- classes, farmer’s market whole food shopping guide, and other healthy eating alternatives from basic fast- food consumption.

Physical Health: The program educates and engages Thai seniors of light physical activity to promote healthy living and self- esteem. Our program gives isolated seniors to interact with other members in the community and participate in group physical exercises which are fun and stimulating for the body and mind.

Mental Health Education and Referral: The program educates Thai seniors about mental health. THAIS, Inc. has partnerships with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH) which provide various services. Our program is to educate the Thai senior community about DMH’s services.

Stroke and Bone Density Screening: THAIS, Inc’s Health Fair provides free Stroke and Bone Density Screenings. The program is to educate Thai seniors about preventative care. A bone mineral density (BMD) test measures how much calcium and other types of minerals are present in a section of your bone. Your health care provider uses this test, along with other risk factors, to predict your risk of bone fractures in the future and detect osteoporosis. Bone fracture risk is highest in people with osteoporosis.



Enrollment/Referral Assistance

Enrollment/Referral Assistance Program: Our Enrollment and Referral Assistance Programs help assist Thais gain access to mainstream Health and Social Services (e.g. City, State, and Federal). The program is targeted for Thais who are mainly monolingual and from low-income socioeconomic backgrounds and are in need of assistance to navigate with mainstream service providers.

  • Assist in applying for Medicare and Medical.
  • Enrollment service with Transportation Access: the Los Angeles County Consolidated Transportation Services Agency’s Access Paratransit.
  • Enrollment service for low- income/affordable housing with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles.



Seniors

Senior Programs: THAIS, Inc. has created the Thai Seniors Social Club to reach out to isolated seniors in the Thai community. The club offers group support activities and opportunities for isolated seniors to interact with other seniors and community members.

Senior Luncheon: The Thai Seniors Social Club meets the first Saturday of each month at Thailand Plaza in Hollywood. Seniors are treated with free buffet lunch, educational information about health issues, hands- on activities and exercises, and volunteer opportunity.



Youth

Child Car Seat Program: Yearly in mid- May collaborating with Community Development Department of Los Angeles, provide free car seats & booster seats to low-income families.


Toy Drive: Special Holiday event toy drive in collaboration with the Los Angeles Police Department.


Lead Free Campaign: Funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency Region 9 to educate and increase awareness on lead poisoning for Thai families with young children in Los Angeles County. Also provides access to follow-up services and notification to federal agencies for lead eradication.
